Kovalam Beach in God’s Own Country

On the way back from Kanyakumari, we stayed in Kovalam for a day. Kovalam is a small coastal town in Kerala by the Arabian Sea. Even though the month was early January, it was sweltering. We took refuge in our hotel room straight away after arrival even though I was tempted to go and check out the surrounding. A magnificent day was waiting to be explored.

We got out enjoying the sunset at the beach. The moment was magical. Although there were crowds on the top of the little hill made of rocks, we felt very calm and quiet. People were eager not to miss the beautiful moments waiting patiently.

Watching the sky changing colour from blue to pink and then to orange and listening to the sound of the waves was mesmerizing. Our souls were rejuvenated.

The beach was trendy among the foreigners and beautiful even though not all parts of the beach were pristine. Apart from the locals, the percentage of foreign tourists outnumbered Indians. A few Ayurvedic Resorts around the area made it more fashionable. The water was warm, and the place was safe. People were doing all sorts of activities. The area had the perfect vibe and the buzz who were looking to have fun. The beach side restaurants, shops and fairy lights created a festival like atmosphere.

We had a pleasant and relaxing walk by the Light House Beach. Vizhinjam Light House closed by then. So we just sat on the beach close to the place. In the backdrop of the hill, coconut and palm trees covered the way to the Light House.  Looking at the Light House in the twilight through the trees taken me to the Dreamworld.

We sat near the Light House for sometimes enjoying the night falling on the vast Arabian Sea slowly. So peaceful!
We decided to check out the beach side shops as the fairy lights were turned on the beach. The restaurants were getting full. We had to get out early in the morning next day. So we decided to visit the fresh seafood restaurants for dinner. Here you could choose your seafood and get them cooked while enjoying the beautiful night on the beach. We kept on shopping around for best-priced quality seafood. Nandini was very keen on checking the price against the quality of seafood. The restaurants were expensive by Indian standard, but there was no shortage of takers. After visiting a few restaurants, we picked up our lobsters, and they cooked Malai Coconut Curry for us with lots of spice and chilli.

Satisfied, we walked toward the quieter part of the beach on the way to the hotel, soaking into the Kovalam Beach mood for one last time.
NB: Sorry for the poor photo quality.
